Kenyan-born Bank Executive Found Beaten To Death In London Apartment

Police in the UK are investigating the death of a Kenyan lady whose body was found in her apartment Friday afternoon with a fatal head injury.

Metropolitan Police working on the case were yet to make any arrests, but they believe Marianne Kilonzi’s killer was known to her, the Daily Mail reports.

Her body was found on Friday at 5.25pm after police received calls from people concerned about her wellbeing.

“This is a tragic crime, and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne’s loved ones and colleagues,” detective Suzanne Soren is quoted by the Daily Mail as having said.

She termed the manhunt for the suspected killer a fast-paced investigation.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that “one line of inquiry” was that the suspect had fled the country.

A post-mortem examination on Saturday found that Ms Kilonzi died from a blunt force trauma injury to the head.

Forensic detectives searched her house and rubbish bins for evidence that might assist in the investigations.

Marianne, 43, was Vice President of Trade and Working Capital Sales, Treasury and Trade Solutions at Citibank, where she had worked for more than 18 years.

According to her LinkedIn profile, she studied Bachelor of Science (Computer Science) at the Kenyatta University between 2001 and 2004.

“We are in contact with her family, who are being supported by specialist colleagues,” detective Soren said.

A postmortem conducted on Saturday indicated Marianne’s cause of death as blunt force trauma and a head injury.

“I know this is a concerning time for the wider community and want to reassure the public that whilst we are in the early stages of this investigation, we believe the suspect was known to Marianne,” the detective said.

Marianne’s neighbours on her first-floor flat located on Argyll Road in Woolwich, a stone’s throw away from the River Thames in southeast London, reported to investigating officers having heard a loud disturbance coming from her apartment in the wee hours of Monday.

The Daily Mail said residents of the exclusive Royal Arsenal Riverside development were questioned about the ‘noisy disturbance’ heard between 3am and 4am.

Neighbours have told how they heard “blood-curdling screams” in the run-up to Ms Kilonzi’s death, with one telling Metro: “The poor woman was inside the flat with the door bolted. The police got in somehow but it was too late.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Citi told MailOnline.
