How Maina Njenga Reached His Kiambu Home After Being Dumped By His Abductors In Limuru

Ex-Mungiki leader Maina Njenga was released by his kidnappers on Sunday night after spending 24 hours with them.

Njenga was dumped in Limuru, Kiambu County at about 10:15pm and offered a ride home.

He was told not to say anything about his ordeal and was given back his gadgets and fare home.

He then took a motorcycle to his home in Banana where he was picked up by his abductors on Saturday night.

His lawyer Ndegwa Njiru confirmed the release and accused the police of being behind it.

“Our client Maina Njenga was finally released by the rogue police hit squad after our press conference,” he said.

His brother Njoroge Kamunya also confirmed Njenga’s release.

The release came hours after the Azimio La Umoja coalition said Njenga had been abducted by rogue police officers who did not identify themselves.

“The abductors were therefore easily part of the Special Support Unit that terrorised Kenyans during the anti-tax protests. The SSU is therefore very much alive, active and determined to intimidate and even harm Kenyans,” Azimio said in a statement.

The police are yet to comment on the matter.

Furthermore, Azimio said, the former sect leader was due to appear in court on Monday and his abduction was intended to disrupt the court proceedings.

“The arrest is therefore clearly an attempt to disrupt this scheduled pre-trial.”

“Maina’s abduction is also part of the Kenya Kwanza’s ongoing targeting and intimidation of opposition leaders. It is an attempt to distract Kenyans from the Kenya Kwanza’s mess such as the rising cost of fuel and food,” the team said.

They also called for Njenga’s immediate release and said they would hold Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome responsible if anything happened to him.

His abduction took place on Saturday night in Banana area, Kiambu.

The motive for the incident is not yet known.

Njenga is expected at the Makadara Magistrate’s Court on Monday for a pre-trial hearing.

This is not the first time he has been involved in such drama. It is the latest drama.
