Arnold Schwarzenegger, an Austrian-American bodybuilder, model, actor, businessman, and politician, has a net worth of $750 million.
He is one of the most famous people on the planet and was once the highest-paid person in entertainment.
At the peak of his career, he consistently earned $20–30 million per movie. Over the years, Arnold has made hundreds of millions of dollars in film salaries.
Beyond acting, Arnold built a real estate empire and owns 5% of Dimensional Fund Advisors, an investment firm.
Since arriving in the US in the 1970s, he has invested his earnings in real estate, becoming a millionaire by age 25.
His real estate holdings are likely worth $100–200 million. In 1996, he acquired his 5% stake in Dimensional Fund Advisors when the firm managed $12 billion in assets.

2003 Financial Report
In August 2003, during his campaign for governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger released a detailed financial report outlining his business empire and net worth.
The report revealed that Arnold’s net worth in 2003 was $200 million. It also showed that he earned $14 million in 2003 and $24 million in 2002.
Over the previous three years, he paid $11 million in federal taxes and $4 million in state taxes. Arnold runs all his movie income through an LLC called Oak Productions Inc., based in Santa Monica, California.
Oak Productions operates from a building at 3110 Main Street, a prime commercial property with about a dozen tenants. Arnold owns the entire building.
In an April 2006 disclosure, it was revealed that Arnold earned $17 million in 2004, though he had not yet filed his 2005 taxes at that time.
Biography
Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on July 30, 1947, in the small village of Thal, Austria. His father, Gustav, was the local chief of police, and his mother was a homemaker.
At 13, Arnold’s football coach took him to the local gym and introduced him to bodybuilding.
Arnold’s father wanted him to become a police officer, and his mother hoped he would attend trade school. However, Arnold had bigger dreams beyond their small village.
After learning that some Mr. Universe winners had successful acting careers in Hollywood, Arnold decided to become the most famous professional bodybuilder in the world.
In 1965, Arnold won the Junior Mr. Europe Contest. Two years later, at 20, he became the youngest person to win the Mr. Universe title, a title he would win three more times.
Despite his success in bodybuilding, Arnold also found time to attend business school in his spare time.
Property Investments
In September 1968, at 21, Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to America with $27,000, saved from winning competitions.
Adjusted for inflation, that’s about $182,000 today—a significant sum. Shortly after arriving in Hollywood, Arnold began making small real estate investments.
He first bought a plot of land in Palmdale, California, which was rumored to become the site of a supersonic airport. Although this investment failed, Arnold remained determined.
He used his remaining funds and borrowed $10,000 from his trainer at Gold’s Gym in Venice, California, to buy an apartment building for $214,000.
A year later, he sold it for $360,000. He then traded up to a 12-unit building, then a 36-unit building, and eventually a 100-unit building.
Each time, Arnold reinvested the profits to avoid taxes and boost future returns. By 25, Arnold had become a real estate millionaire, long before he was a well-known actor.
Today, Arnold owns a vast real estate portfolio, mostly commercial properties in Southern California. Excluding his personal homes, this portfolio is worth over $100 million.
Dimensional Fund Advisors
In 1996, Arnold bought a 5% stake in Dimensional Fund Advisors for an undisclosed amount. At that time, the firm managed about $12 billion in assets.
Today, the firm oversees nearly $700 billion. Arnold’s 5% stake is now reportedly worth $300–500 million before taxes.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a longtime member of the Republican Party. He spoke at the 2004 National Republican Convention, sharing his reasons for becoming a Republican.
Movie Success
In 1970, Arnold Schwarzenegger won his first “Mr. Olympia” title, a victory he would repeat several times throughout his career.
After this win, Arnold got his first big break in the film industry, landing a role in “Hercules in New York.” His fame grew even more in 1977 with the release of the bodybuilding documentary “Pumping Iron.”
Arnold’s popularity continued to rise with movies like “Conan the Barbarian,” but his career truly skyrocketed when he starred in the 1984 blockbuster “The Terminator.”
He earned $75,000 for his role, and the movie went on to gross $80 million worldwide.
This success catapulted Arnold’s career to new heights, leading to hits like “The Running Man,” “Red Heat,” and “The Predator.” He even ventured into comedy with the 1988 film “Twins,” co-starring Danny DeVito.
In the 1990s, Arnold reprised his role as the Terminator, working again with director James Cameron. They achieved more success with “True Lies.”
Arnold closed out the decade with movies like “Last Action Hero,” 1996’s “Eraser,” and “Batman and Robin.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger Net Worth and Highest Earnings
To date, Arnold has earned at least $400 million from film salaries alone, before taxes. Surprisingly, his largest paycheck came from a movie you might not expect: the 1988 film “Twins.”
For “Twins,” Arnold, Danny DeVito, and director Ivan Reitman agreed to take no salary from the studio in exchange for 40% ownership of the film, which meant 13.33% each.
The movie became a huge success, earning over $215 million worldwide at the box office. It also performed well on VHS and cable.
In a March 2014 interview, Arnold stated he earned more from “Twins” than from any other movie in his career, a claim he believed was true for Reitman and DeVito as well.
Adjusting for inflation, if Arnold, Danny, and Ivan each made $35-40 million from the movie in 1988, that would equal about $70-80 million today. The trio later reunited for the film “Junior.”
Governor of California
Arnold Schwarzenegger has been a longtime member of the Republican Party. He even spoke at the 2004 National Republican Convention, explaining why he became a Republican.
In 2003, he surprised the nation by announcing on “The Tonight Show” that he was running for governor of California. Arnold served as Governor from 2003 to 2011.
He later claimed that during his eight years as governor, he lost $200 million in potential movie earnings. Although he was entitled to an annual salary of $175,000 as governor, he chose not to accept the payment.
Personal Life
Arnold was married to television news personality Maria Shriver, who is the niece of President John F. Kennedy, from 1986 to 2017.
They have four children, including Katherine Schwarzenegger, who is married to actor Chris Pratt, and model/actor Patrick Schwarzenegger.
Arnold and Maria’s relationship ended in 2011 when news broke that he had fathered a son 14 years earlier with the family housekeeper.
Their divorce took six years to settle and reportedly cost Arnold $200 million. He kept their family home in Brentwood, while Maria used his funds to buy a new home nearby.
