Catholic Nun Arrested in Meru For Murder of Fellow Nun
MERU – A Catholic nun has been arrested as the prime suspect in the brutal murder of a fellow sister, whose body was discovered in her house at Meru Children’s Home on Sunday morning.
Sister Anselimina Karimi, 65, who served as administrator of the children’s home in Nkabune on the outskirts of Meru town, was found lying on her back in her dining room on October 12, 2025. She is believed to have been killed the previous night.
The Imenti East Sub-county Police Commander confirmed the incident, stating that the DCI’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau has taken over investigations into the murder.
According to police sources, the suspect is a fellow nun who had recently been transferred to the children’s home to assume administrative duties from Sister Karimi. Preliminary investigations suggest the victim was murdered elsewhere before her body was brought back to her residence.
“The deceased was found in her dining room lying on her back. The body was oozing blood from the ears, nose and mouth. There was blood on her clothes and one of the house curtains,” a senior police officer who is not authorised to speak to the media revealed.
Investigators believe Sister Karimi was struck on the head with a blunt object. Significantly, her clothes had black jack seeds, indicating she may have been attacked at a different location. The crime scene had also been cleaned, tampering with crucial evidence.
Forensic investigations show that Sister Karimi was at her house until 10pm on Saturday. Her mobile phone was switched off around 11pm and remains missing, adding another layer to the mystery.
After allegedly discovering the body, the suspect called colleagues and requested they rush Sister Karimi to Consolata Mission Hospital in Nkubu, approximately 16 kilometres away. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
It was family members who raised the alarm and reported the matter to Nkubu Police Station, suspecting foul play. Police say the deceased had previously confided to her relatives that her life was in danger.
Detectives are currently analyzing the suspect’s phone data to establish her location and communication patterns during the crucial hours. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face murder charges.
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local Catholic community and raised questions about what could have driven one religious sister to allegedly murder another.
