Man Charged With Sh70M Runda Land Fraud

A man has been charged with forging documents and fraudulently obtaining millions for a piece of land in Runda, Nairobi.

Nicholas Karunjigi Munyua is accused of forging a certificate of lease for LR No. Nairobi block 112/72 in the name of Florence Nyanjihia Kabata and John Kamau Ngugi purporting it to be a genuine certificate of lease issued at Nairobi Land Registry.

Munyua is alleged to have committed the offense on or before 26th April 2023 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, with intent to defraud and  without lawful authority or excuse.

The accused is also accused of obtaining registration of the said land by false pretenses.

The court heard that Munyua procured for himself a certificate of lease for land LR Nairobi Block 112/72 measuring approximately 0.3091 hectares by falsely pretending that he was the owner of the said parcel of land.

He allegedly committed this offense on 14th August 2008, at Nairobi Land Registry, willfully and unlawfully

In addition, the accused person is charged with obtaining Sh 29,800,000 from Ngugi and Kabata by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell to them the said land.

Munyua is alleged to have committed the offense on diverse dates between 8th February 2023 and 20th October2023, in Nairobi, with intent to defraud.

The court also heard the accused person conspired with others not before court to defraud Edward Ndumari Mungatana and Martha Francesca Mugure Ndumari of their parcel of land on diverse dates between 30th October 2022 and 5th March, 2023.

He denied the charges before Senor Principal Magistrate Dolphina Alego.

The slapped him with a bod of Sh 5 million and one surety of a similar amount.

He was also given the option to pay a cash bail of Sh 2.5 million to secure his release pending the hearing and determination of the case.
