A bodyguard assigned to State House spokesperson Hussein Mohamed fatally shot a man in Muthangari, Nairobi, on Sunday night. Police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly encounter.
Muhammed Yusuf Keinan, the bodyguard, claims he was attacked by three men while walking home at around 8:00 p.m.
He says the attackers tried to steal his Ceska pistol, forcing him to fire several shots. One of the bullets struck and killed Amos Lang’at, a 38-year-old man. The other two assailants fled on a motorcycle.
Now, police are reviewing the case to determine whether Yusuf acted in self-defense or if there was another motive behind the shooting.

Hussein Mohamed Bodyguard’s Account: A Struggle for Survival or Unjustified Force?
Yusuf told police that the three men confronted him and attempted to steal his firearm. He said one of them managed to grab his Ceska pistol, but he wrestled it back.
He then fired multiple warning shots into the air, hoping to scare them away. However, the confrontation ended with Lang’at being shot dead.
The bodyguard reported suffering injuries to his arm during the struggle. Police have since disarmed him and admitted him to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators are working to verify his account and determine whether he was justified in using lethal force.
Detectives are considering multiple angles, including whether this was an attempted robbery or if there could be another reason behind the attack.
A senior officer involved in the case stated, “At this point, we are relying on his statement, but we need more evidence to confirm what really happened.”
CCTV Footage and Witness Testimonies: Key to Unlocking the Truth
Police officers at Muthangari station are revisiting the crime scene to collect evidence and interview possible witnesses. They are also searching for any CCTV footage that may have captured the incident.
So far, no arrests have been made. However, detectives believe reviewing surveillance footage and gathering more testimonies will clarify the sequence of events.
“For now, we don’t have anyone in custody, but as we continue piecing together the evidence, we expect to make progress,” an officer involved in the probe said.
The body of Amos Lang’at has been moved to the Chiromo Mortuary as investigations continue.

Was This an Isolated Incident or a Security Concern?
This shooting raises serious questions about security, self-defense, and the role of armed bodyguards in Kenya.
Was the attack a random robbery, or did Lang’at and his associates have another motive? Was the use of deadly force necessary?
As the investigation unfolds, police will determine whether Yusuf’s actions were lawful or if he will face charges. The coming days will be critical in establishing the truth behind this fatal encounter.
