The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has launched a nationwide recruitment drive to bolster Kenya’s security forces, announcing the recruitment of police constables across all 47 counties.

The exercise, which begins on October 3, 2025, represents one of the largest police recruitment drives in recent years.

The recruitment exercise is anchored on the Constitution of Kenya Articles 246(3), 246(4), 243, and 238(d), alongside sections 10, 11, and 12 of the National Police Service Commission Act Cap 85 and the National Police Service Act Cap 84. This legal foundation ensures the process meets constitutional requirements for transparent and merit-based public service recruitment.

Key Entry Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet stringent requirements to qualify for the police service:

Basic Qualifications:

– Kenyan citizenship with a valid National Identity Card
– Age bracket of 18-28 years
– Minimum KCSE grade of D+ with at least D+ in English or Kiswahili
– Clean criminal record with no pending charges
– Physical and medical fitness

Physical Requirements:

– Minimum height: 5ft 8in for males, 5ft 3in for females
– Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment and throughout the training period

The commission has particularly encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum requirements to apply, recognizing their disciplinary training and national service experience.

Anti-Corruption Measures

NPSC has issued stern warnings against corrupt practices, emphasizing that the recruitment process is entirely free. Chief Executive Officer Peter Leley, EBS, stressed that engaging in bribery or corrupt practices constitutes a criminal offense under section 25 of the National Police Service Commission Act.

The recruitment centers have been strategically distributed to ensure equitable access across Kenya’s diverse geographical landscape.

Urban centers like Nairobi feature multiple venues including specialized facilities like the CID Training School and NYS Headquarters, while remote areas have been allocated centers at accessible locations such as district commissioner offices and local stadiums.

This recruitment drive comes at a critical time when Kenya faces various security challenges including terrorism threats, cattle rustling in pastoral areas, and urban crime.

The injection of fresh personnel into the National Police Service is expected to enhance community policing, improve response times, and strengthen overall national security.

Special Provisions

The commission has made special accommodations for marginalized areas, with recruitment centers established in remote locations across northern Kenya, coastal regions, and other previously underserved areas.

This ensures that qualified candidates from all parts of the country have equal opportunity to join the service.

Successful candidates will undergo comprehensive training at various police training colleges across the country.

The training curriculum covers law enforcement techniques, human rights, community policing, and modern security challenges.

The NPSC has emphasized that only candidates who strictly meet the advertised requirements should apply, as the selection process will be thorough and merit-based.
