Ex-KDF Soldier and Ruto Loyalist Dies Days After Predicting His Own Death
Nairobi, Kenya – David Ogwagwa Mokaya, a retired Kenya Defence Forces sergeant and devoted supporter of President William Ruto, died Tuesday at Kenyatta National Hospital following a medical procedure.
The 63-year-old’s death came just days after he made eerily prescient statements about his own demise.
Mokaya was admitted to KNH on Monday after being referred from Nairobi West Hospital, where he had sought treatment for a neck condition that caused facial swelling and impaired speech.
According to family underwent a scheduled procedure on Tuesday but did not survive.
The former soldier’s premonition proved chillingly accurate.
In a WhatsApp message posted to a local group, Mokaya wrote: “When I die not long from now, invite all to my final sendoff. I am a brave soldier who cannot fear death.”
He continued expressing similar sentiments in subsequent messages, even counseling his family about his anticipated death and expressing his resolve to speak the truth about politics until the end.
Mokaya’s political allegiance to Ruto spanned over a decade.
After retiring from the KDF in 2013, he joined Ruto’s camp during the formation of the United Republican Party, which later merged into the Jubilee coalition.
A regular presence at Ruto’s rallies, Mokaya was known for his unwavering defense of the president’s agenda and his prediction that Ruto would serve two terms, a forecast that proved accurate following the 2022 election.
