Kericho Court Defers Plea Taking For Litein High School Students
A Kericho court has postponed plea taking for eight Litein high school students put on trial for arson, burglary and property damage charges at the school following a miscellaneous application.
The eight minors, jointly charged alongside four other accused persons, were arraigned in court before Kericho Principal Magistrate (PM) Fredrick Nyakundi Tuesday, but failed to take plea, following an oral miscellaneous application by the prosecution seeking for more time to finalize their investigations.
Ruling on the application, Nyakundi directed that the accused students appear in court on the 24th of this month during which the prosecution will proceed with the case.
The Magistrate further directed that the students be held at the Kericho Children’s Remand home, while the four accused persons will be held at Litein police station, until tomorrow, when they will be brought back to court for a mention of their case.
The court also directed that the prosecution avail pro bono legal representation for the eight students.
The school has been indefinitely closed following the Sunday night’s violent student uprising, which resulted in classroom fires and office vandalism.
