Court Hands Mwangaza A Temporary Reprieve In Her Impeachment
The Meru High Court has stopped MCAs from debating impeachment motion against Governor Kawira Mwangaza, which was scheduled for Thursday.
Judge Linus Kassan issued the ruling on Wednesday, pending a decision on a case filed by Mwangaza challenging the impeachment process.
“The impeachment process is halted Pending my ruling and since this is a matter of public interest, the rulings will be delivered on Monday 29th July 2024 via email to all parties,” the Judge ruled.
Governor Mwangaza sought to prevent the local MCAs from pursuing her impeachment, arguing that the motion is flawed and driven by her political opponents.
The decision comes as a reprieve for the Governor, who is facing intense political pressure from the local MCAs and her fourth impeachment attempt.
The MCAs have accused Mwangaza of gross violations of the Constitution, national and county laws, and alleged abuse of office.
On Monday, a section of MCAs opposed the proposed motion to impeach Governor Mwangaza, a move that could see the motion collapse in the assembly.
The 10 MCAs who initially signed in favor of the proposed motion made a U-turn, asking the mover to withdraw the motion and allow for dialogue between the two arms of government.
