President William Ruto says the late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla offered to be court martialed over the Bomas fiasco during the last General election.

Speaking during Ogolla’s memorial at the Ulinzi Sports grounds, the head of state described his humility that compelled him to forgive the General.

“I had a one-on-one meeting with General Ogolla and he said he had no defense for what had happened during the 2022 election. He gave me three choices; to either send him to court martial, have him retire or forgive him,” he stated.

President Ruto further stated that the decision to overrule his advisors on Ogolla’s appointment was driven by merit.

“As a result, the Kenya Defence Forces has lost highly promising officers who still had so much to contribute to the strength, security and glory of our country, together with their leader and commander, General Francis Ogolla,” he stated.

“Over the course of my life in public service, I have had the privilege to meet, interact and work with many outstanding men and women whose achievements and visions represent the best of what Kenya has to offer.”

He stated that that Ogolla stood head and shoulders among exemplary public servants.

“I am aware that off-duty, General Ogolla was involved in various services for the benefit of the community, including youth motivation and guidance. I know that I have already said, and want to say again, that his death is a painful loss to me personally.”

He stated that he was a man whom he admired very much.
