KURA Announces Closing of Links Road -Nyali For Six Months
A section of Links Road in Nyali, Mombasa, will be closed for six months starting Friday, August 1, 2025, until Friday, January 30, 2026, the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced.
The road will be closed to pave the way for extensive construction aimed at solving long-standing flooding and drainage issues that have disrupted traffic and affected local residents for years.
KURA says the works are part of a long-term plan to improve road infrastructure in urban areas and make city travel more reliable.
In a statement released on Tuesday, KURA called on all road users to remain alert and follow instructions at the site.
“We urge motorists to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to follow all traffic signs and directions,” the agency said.
To minimise confusion and improve traffic flow, police officers and traffic marshals will be deployed in the area.
A comprehensive traffic management plan has also been released to guide drivers on available alternative routes.
The agency apologised to the public for any inconvenience the closure may cause and emphasised that the project is in line with its vision to improve urban transport.
“We are committed to transforming urban mobility through sustainable and efficient road networks,” the statement added.
KURA is responsible for urban roads across the country, with its work focused on maintaining, rehabilitating, and expanding public roads in towns and cities. The agency does not handle national roads, but plays a central role in shaping the day-to-day road experience for millions of Kenyans in urban centres.
With oversight of about 4,625 kilometres of urban roads, both paved and unpaved, KURA’s efforts are key to unlocking smoother mobility, reducing congestion, and supporting the country’s social and economic development goals.
As the six-month closure takes effect, residents and regular users of the Nyali section of Links Road are being asked to plan, expect changes, and cooperate with authorities during the project timeline.
