Gold Fraudster Kevin Obia Gone Broke And Set To Be Auctioned Over Lavington Rent Arrears

Despite the flashy lifestyle on social media which is often a trademark for fraudsters to target and entice their victims, Kevin Obia popularly known amongst his peers as the Don is in deep trouble with his landlord Judith Wanjiku Kibaki, daughter of the late former President Mwai Kibaki, over rent arrears that has since accumulated over Sh3 million.

According to a lawsuit civil case number E1069/2023, filed in court showed that the two signed a lease for two years on a monthly rent of Sh350,000. The rent is payable on the first day of every month. However, Obia has not been paying.

As of January 31, he had rent arrears of Sh2.78 million and paid Sh996,000 on February 28. This was after he was served with a demand letter.

After it became apparent that Ms Kibaki was going to auction his properties to recovery the rent owed, Obia on 6th February 2023 filed an urgent application at the Milimani Commercial Court, asking the court to restrain Ms Kibaki from owning his houses.

The court granted his wishes on 20 March 2023.

However, the reprieve was short lived as Milimani principal magistrate B.M. Cheloti lifted the temporary order last week, granted to Mr Obia on March 20, stopping the recovery process.

This was after Ms Kibaki accused Obia of dishonesty and lying to the court.

Through her lawyer Paul Maingi Musyimi, she accused Obia of lying when he filed his application against her.

“The said orders were made by concealment of material facts by the plaintiff/respondent which would not have been made had the court been aware of the material facts,” Musyimi argued.

In her supporting affidavit, Ms Kibaki described Obia’s application as a misguided abuse of the court process and riddled with misrepresentation.

According to an advertisement in the local dailies, Wiskam Auctioneers will sell the following items recovered from his Chalbi Drive, Lavington at the fall of the hammer on Wednesday, 24 May 2023.

8 piece dining suite and table, 5 seater sofa set,
Makuti round table with glass top and Makuti beige chairs, Makuti brown stools,
Two carpets, 6 x 6 bed with mattress, wooden shoe rack, 2 flower pots, 7 empty soda crates
Vacuum cleaner, assorted curtains and other household items.

This paints a different picture of big cars, big money that he flaunts on his social media accounts going to show how much people fake it for the grams.

In 2021, Obia aka Kevin Kleigh aka The Don was sentenced to one year in jail for defrauding a Australian national of Sh13.7 million in a fake gold scam.

He was found guilty of attempting to defraud Austrian national Christian Gallati of Sh16.6 million on the pretense that he was in a position to sell him seven kilos of gold.

He’s been found guilty of gold fraud in other courts after. The gold scamming syndicate mostly target foreign nationals.
