Baobab Beach Resort And Spa Hotel Diani, On The Spot Over Racism Against Locals
The High Court was informed by the Plaintiff that a Hotel based at Diani Kwale County Kenya , Baobab beach resort and spa discriminated Africans, by allegedly being racists and only allowing white skin people to access the hotel and embarrassingly blocking respectable Kenyans to enjoy the services of the hotel , despite being a public place and not a private members Club .
While testifying before Justice Antony Mrima , the victim Dancan Muriuki a member of the International body that is task to solve the problems in Tourism sector and appointed the Government of Kenya, stressed to the Court that during his visit to the hotel to pick two tourists from Europe, the management exposed his image as a person who is a fraudster, untrustworthy and ridiculed him not only before his guests but also to the entire hotel subordinate staff including the Private security officers. Unaware of his status in the Country as the Country Tourism Ambassador.
The spokesperson of Kenya Tourism Federation couldn’t believe that in this day and age, several Beach Hotels within the Coastal Regions in Kenya, prevented Kenyans Citizens who are promoting local tourism to enjoy the services which they the hotel advertised within the Country local media stations and exclusively allowed white people.
The witness in his Chief evidence testifying in the first day of hearing of his application filed ten years ago, stressed that hotels at the Coastal Regions were discriminating Kenyans based on colour.
Muriuki is the Managing Director of Destination Africa DMC Limited and embroiled in a legal battle with the hotel, baobab beach resort and spa, following a business disagreement, misunderstanding, favouritism, discrimination and racism.
He is seeking after filing a suit before the High Court at Milimani Nairobi County Kenya, for the Judge to order the said hotel management to publicly apologize to him for destroying his reputation by placing an advertisement in the Country local media stations to apologise for maliciously defaming his image and his company , his family undergoing trauma and a compensation for the loss of his business, after an ugly encounter with the people he described as arrogant incompetent hotel managers within the Tourism sector.
The Plaintiff painfuly narrated to the Court that the said managers never knew his status, position and influence in the Country and Globally within the Tourism sector, until they got a clue and hurriedly decided to write him a letter apologizing, but he was never satisfied with the procedure of the remorsefulness by the hotel management, whereby he instructed his lawyer Nderitu to file a suit before court seeking for compensation and proper apology through an advertisement in the Country local media stations.
Muriuki received an award from then the former President Mwai Kibaki for his aggressive efforts to market Kenya Globally as Tourism Ambassador appointed by Kenya Tourism Ministry, that was after 2007-08 post poll chaos where the Country Tourism sector was badly affected by the post election violence.
