Nairobi County Waives Ksh 10M Land Rates Debt for Pastor Ng’ang’a
Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, has refuted reports over the closure of Pastor Ng’ang’a’s Neno Evangelism Centre.
In a statement dated Wednesday, May 21, the county official added that the county administration had waived the land rates that the church owed.
He added that the county government, led by Governor Johnson Sakaja, had decided to waive all land rates for religious organisations.
“Our role is not to stop the gospel. Neno Evangelism Centre was not closed down as other media houses reported. Together with our officers, we were only at the premises to follow up on outstanding county dues,” Mosiria wrote.
“We’re pleased to confirm that the church has since been waived, and the hotel has paid for the Unified Business Permit.”
The clarification came after Mosiria and other county officials went to the church in the recent crackdown targeting land owners with outstanding land rates.
From the initial estimates provided by the county government, the church has an outstanding balance of Ksh10 million.
Nairobi County has been intensifying its efforts to collect outstanding land rates from landowners across the city.
This has seen several establishments clamped down, with other facilities such as parking being closed down.
“The crackdown is ongoing. As we approach the weekend, we’ll adopt a multi-agency strategy, deploying several squads to intensify the operation,” Receiver of Revenue Tiras Njoroge added.
“Expect more individuals, including influential and high-profile property owners, to be targeted. Everyone must pay what is due so we can deliver services more effectively.”
