Leaders Hair Transplant, a cosmetic hair transplant clinic located in Westlands’ Mirage Towers, is facing serious allegations of unprofessional conduct and causing permanent damage to clients’ hair.
The clinic, run by Turkish doctors, has been accused of lacking the expertise required to handle African hair, leaving patients with irreversible harm and little recourse for redress.
Allegations of Incompetence and Negligence
According to reports, the clinic’s doctors are ill-equipped to perform hair transplants on African clients. African hair, known for its unique curl pattern and texture, requires specialized skills and experience to transplant successfully.
However, patients allege that the Turkish doctors at Leaders Hair Transplant lack this expertise, resulting in botched procedures that damage the donor area and leave hair in worse condition than before.
One client, who wished to remain anonymous, shared their harrowing experience: “They don’t care about the specifics of African hair. My donor area was ruined, and my hair looks worse than it did before the procedure. When I tried to raise my concerns, their customer support was dismissive and unhelpful.”
Unprofessional Practices
Beyond the alleged incompetence, the clinic has also been accused of engaging in unprofessional and unethical business practices.
Clients report that the clinic does not provide receipts for services rendered, raising questions about transparency and accountability. Payments are reportedly made through informal channels, with clients being asked to withdraw cash and pay via M-Pesa agents instead of using a registered paybill number.
This could also be a ploy to evade taxation as it erases their transactions trail.
Even more alarming are claims that some doctors at the clinic use drugs before performing surgeries, arriving for procedures smelling of smoke. “It’s shocking and unprofessional,” said another client. “You expect doctors to maintain a certain standard of hygiene and professionalism, especially when performing surgeries. This is not what I signed up for.”
This case follows a recent prominent incident last year in October where Lucy Wambui, a blogger, died following a botched liposuction surgery and BBL at Omnicare Medical.
Calls for Accountability
The allegations have sparked outrage among affected clients and the broader public, with many calling for regulatory bodies to investigate the clinic. The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board have been urged to look into the matter to ensure that medical standards are upheld and that patients are protected from harm.
The claims raise significant questions about the regulatory oversight of hair transplant procedures in Kenya and whether foreign practitioners operating such clinics meet the necessary medical standards.
Efforts to contact Leader Hair Transplant for a response to these allegations have so far been unsuccessful. Meanwhile, affected clients are calling for authorities to investigate the clinic and take appropriate action to protect unsuspecting individuals seeking hair restoration treatments.
This is a developing story.
