Sonko Now Reduced To A Pornography Control Director
President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday, appointed Major-General Mohamed Abdalla Badi to head the Nairobi Metropolitan Services that is now in charge of running the capital which deems Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko a ceremonial governor.
Sonko who is facing graft charges and other economic crimes will now be left with a small shell to manage after the government took over the major City Hall sectors.
The communication from State House indicated that Sonko had surrendered four constitutional functions as stipulated below:
i) County Health services
ii) County Transport services
iii) County Public Works, Utilities and Ancillary services
iv) County Government Planning and Development
Kenyainsights has established that Sonko will now be in charge of the licensing of dogs, controlling pornography, and other non-essential services like plants and disease control, Facilities for the accommodation, care, and burial of animals.
Human Rights Activist Okiya Omtatah, Lawyer Robbin Murimi and Katiba Insitute have filed separate applications at the High Court Nairobi challenging the takeover of the four functions by the national government.
