Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, known for her bold menstrual health advocacy, has confirmed her relationship with former Ghanaian President John Kufuor according to The Nairobian. Orwoba made headlines when she wore a blood-stained suit to parliament to challenge menstrual stigma but stepped back from the public eye until recently.
She reappeared during Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment hearing, visibly pregnant and sparking widespread curiosity about the father of her child. Speculations intensified after a video surfaced of Kufuor touching Orwoba’s baby bump, leading to rumors of a romantic connection.
Orwoba confirmed their relationship to The Nairobian, stating, “That is me in the video and that is the former President, we don’t discuss our personal lives.” She later announced the birth of her child, dismissing social media detectives guessing the father’s identity.
Beyond personal news, Orwoba has shown her affinity for Ghana, recently congratulating John Mahama on his presidential win.
Kufuor, now in his 80s, has been out of the public eye since his wife’s death in 2023 but remains a notable figure due to his past presidency.
Orwoba isn’t new to controversy, having faced a Senate suspension for accusations of sexual favors within parliament, which was temporarily halted by a court order.
Update:
Orwoba has come out strongly to refute strongly rclaims made by local media regarding her relationship with former Ghanaian, demanding an immediate public apology and retraction of the article.
In a statement released on Friday, December 20, 2024, Orwoba decried the media’s infringement on her privacy and the disrespectful way in which her personal life had been handled.
“For the better part of my career, I have faced various forms of violence, both verbal and physical, and I have always stood up against patriarchal systems. However, this unwarranted invasion of my private life, particularly regarding a supposed affair with H.E. John Kufuor, is deeply disappointing,” she said.
