Man Charged For Telling Migori Woman Rep Fatuma To Get Married As She’s Getting Old
A man has been charged with cyber harassment after sending a message to Migori Woman Representative Fatuma Zainabu Mohammed, telling her to get married because she was “getting old.”
Vincent Otieno Okwanyo appeared before Milimani Magistrate BenMark Ekhubi, where he pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecution alleges that Otieno sent an insulting and offensive SMS to the MP, suggesting that she should find a man to marry her due to her age.
The specific text allegedly stated, “You are growing old, you should get a man to marry you…”
Prosecutors argue that the message was intended to demean and harm the reputation of the legislator. Following his plea, Otieno was released on a bond of Sh 100,000, with an alternative option of Sh 50,000 cash bail.
The case will proceed with a full hearing at a later date.
