What is Jeb Bush’s net worth?
Jeb Bush, an American politician, has a net worth of $40 million. He served as the 43rd Governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007, becoming the first Republican Governor to complete two full four-year terms in the state.
Jeb also ran as a presidential candidate in the 2016 election. He is the second son of President George H.W. Bush and the younger brother of former President George W. Bush.
Presidential Ambitions and Tax Returns
Jeb ran for President before the 2016 election but didn’t succeed. At first, he seemed likely to win, but Donald Trump defeated him quickly and decisively. Donald called Jeb “low energy.”
As part of his Presidential campaign, Jeb released 33 years of tax returns. Those returns revealed that from 1981 to 2013, Jeb earned a total of $38,300,245.
Early Life and Education
Jeb Bush was born on February 11, 1953, in Midland, Texas, to George and Barbara Bush. His full name is John Ellis Bush, but he got the nickname “Jeb” from his initials.
The Bush family had six children, with Jeb being the third, after his older brother George and older sister Robin. Sadly, Robin passed away from leukemia when Jeb was less than a year old.
When Jeb was six years old, his family moved to the Tanglewood neighborhood of Houston, Texas. He attended Grady Elementary School there.
Following family tradition, he later went to Phillips Academy, a boarding school in Andover, Massachusetts.
Despite starting high school in Houston, he had to repeat his freshman year at Phillips Academy due to poor grades.
However, by his senior year, he improved and made the honor roll, also becoming captain of the tennis team.
In September 1971, instead of attending Yale University like many in his family, Jeb enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin.
He played on the varsity tennis team and studied Latin American studies, which he chose after teaching English in Mexico at age 17.
He completed his coursework in two and a half years, graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Jeb was also a member of the Phi Beta Kappa fraternity.
Business and Politics
After graduating from UT, Bush started working at the Texas Commerce Bank. Three years later, the bank sent him to Caracas, Venezuela, to open a new branch.
In 1980, Bush moved his family to Miami, Florida, and began investing in real estate. He became a partner at The Codina Group, a prominent real estate development firm in South Florida.
Alongside this, he pursued various entrepreneurial ventures and supported his father’s political campaigns.
Entry Into Politics
In the mid-1980s, Bush entered Florida politics as Chairman of the Dade County Republican Party.
His efforts helped Bob Martinez win the 1986 governorship, and Martinez appointed Bush as Florida’s Secretary of Commerce.
Bush held this position until 1988, when he left to aid his father’s presidential campaign.
In 1994, Bush ran for governor of Florida but was unsuccessful. However, he ran again in 1998 and won. Re-elected in 2002, Bush became Florida’s first two-term Republican governor.
During his tenure, Bush focused on reforming the state’s education system, advocating school choice and establishing Florida’s first charter schools.
He also championed conservation efforts in the Everglades and implemented tax cuts and reduced state spending.
His time in office coincided with the disputed recount of Florida’s votes in the 2004 presidential election involving his older brother, George W. Bush.
Jeb Bush chose not to participate in the recount process during this period.
Personal Life
Bush met Columba Garnica Gallo, his future wife, while teaching English in León, Mexico, in 1970. They started dating and married in Austin, Texas, in 1974.
Their first child, George, was born in 1976, followed by a daughter, Noelle, in 1977, and another son, Jeb Jr., in 1983.
Raised in an Episcopalian household, Bush chose to convert to Roman Catholicism in 1995. He later became a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal service organization, in 2004.
Bush is a member of the Father Hugon Council in Tallahassee and has also joined the Father Hugon Assembly.
Jeb Bush Net Worth and Deals With Derek Jeter
In 2017, rumors circulated that several groups were eyeing the purchase of the Miami Marlins. Jeb Bush led one group, while another was spearheaded by Derek Jeter.
Bush and Jeter’s group agreed to buy the Marlins from current owner Jeffrey Loria for $1.3 billion.
This “agreement in principle” marked the second-highest price ever paid for a Major League Baseball franchise.
Previously, Guggenheim Partners and Magic Johnson had bought the Dodgers for $2 billion in 2012.
