‪Young Man Don’t Be Impatient With Us, We Want The Truth, Oburu Chides Gen Ogolla’s Son‬

Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga while speaking on the death of General Francis Ogolla following chopper crash said the Luo community has in the past lost high-ranking leaders under unclear circumstances hence need to probe for the truth.

“Even though it was an accident; in this region we’ve had many such accidents and we’ve also had assassinations of leaders from this region. So when such things happen we are a bit suspicious not because of anything, but we want to know the truth,” Oburu said.

Oburu differed with Joel Omondi, the general’s son who had ruled out foul play in his father’s death, “I want to ask our Uncle, the General’s son, young man, don’t be impatient with us allow investigators to do their work! It’s not because of anything it is because once bitten twice shy. We asking for no stones to be left unturned and let us know the truth on who killed General Ogolla.” Oburu said.

In his speech, Oburu who was representing the larger Oginga family, recalled the assassinations of prominent Luo leaders in the past including Tom Mboya, Robert Ouko among others.

“I was part and parcel of the team that was investigating the death of Ouko. It was very sad because the regime at that time managed to convince the family to be very protective and not allow people to go into details. So young man allow investigators to do their work,” he added.

Calls for investigation

Azimio La Umoja leaders in attendance including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka added their voice in calling for thorough investigations.

“What Kenyans want is simply to make it public because they that will alley all these fears.The matter of General Ogolla goes beyond our sister Aileen and her beautiful kids. It is a national thing, for the truth must come out,” Kalonzo said.

Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua also called for a probe, “When an accident occurs, it is a security issue. There are concerns which deserve answers. Since an inquiry has been formed, we look forward to speedy investigations into the death of General Francis Ogolla.” She said.

Orengo speaks 

“The first rule of investigations is you don’t rule out anything,” Siaya governor James Orengo said in calling for a comprehensive investigation into the helicopter crash that killed Gen Ogolla.

“We have mourned many heroes in Nyanza. I plead with everybody to allow Kenyans to mourn their heroes the way they can. We want to be assured nothing will be left out in General Ogolla’s chopper crash investigations so the truth comes out.‬” Orengo said.

He expressed alarm that an apparently mechanically unfit copper without backup allegedly was assigned to General Francis Ogolla who died when it crashed.

He also asked why such a minor mission as school inspection was assigned to the Chief of Defence Forces in a bandit-prone area. The crash was on Thursday at 2.30pm.

The chopper lost power shortly after taking off but the cause has not yet been established.

Orengo on Saturday said as a leader from Ogolla’s home region, he will not shy away from demanding clarity on the circumstances surrounding Ogolla’s death. The chopper lost power and exploded in a fireball when it was taking off after the inspection.

He asked why the Ministry of Education was not involved. The military as a rule does not inspect schools or commission them.
