In a study conducted in Nairobi Mutura a blood soaked local delicacy and boiled eggs have been deemed unfit for human consumption.

Results from National Public Health Laboratory concluded the roadside vendored food is contaminated with disease causing germs not fit for human consumption.

Mutura was found to be contaminated with staphylococcus, bacillus, streptococcus, proteus, and E coli organisms, germs that researchers from the university’s veterinary department earlier said pose serious food safety risks to consumers.

The E coli organisms indicates human or animal faecal contamination.

Handlers may use dirty water while cleaning and in the preparation process or use dirty cutlery like knives while cutting the pieces of meat or peeling the eggs. Researchers also faulted the handlers for not washing their hands after receiving money from customers.

In May another report showed much of raw salad (Kachumbari) is also contaminated.
