According to Dr Joseph Kimani who works with the government chemist, among evidence items handed to him by the police for analysis for the murder trial of Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie and Jacque Maribe, brown shorts belonging to Jowie had blood that belonged to the victim, Monica Kimani, although one could not tell using the naked eye.
Dr. Kimani said he was handed a total of 73 exhibits by detectives, among them swabs from a number of people, charred clothes, a bloodstained towel, a knife, a wine glass, empty beer cans and empty beer bottles.
Other exhibits that matched Jowie buccal swabs were DNA generated from a swab of a pillow from the victims house, walking closet and rear seat of victims car.
DNA generated from the swab from the rim of the empty Tusker can was of an unknown male origin, the DNA generated from a swab from gear lever of the victims was from an unknown female origin while the swab from the glass and empty beer bottle generated a partial mixed profile
The court also heard strappings collected from Monica Kimani’s apartment did not have Jowies DNA. “The DNA from the strapping in Monica’s house was of a mixed profile, the major contributor matching the profile generated from the blood sample labeled Monica with a random probability of match and a minor contributor is an unknown male profile,” Government analyst Joseph Kagunda Kimani said.
The government analyst was s testifying in the ongoing case where Jowie has been charged alongside his ex-fiancée Jacque Maribe with the murder of Monica. Both have denied killing the 28-year-old businesswoman at her Lamuria Garden apartment in Kilimani, on the night of September 19, 2018.
