Two CIC Insurance Employees Charged With Sh9M Internal Fraud

Two people among them an employee of an insurance company have been charged with fraud over fake insurance claims.
Michael Kamau Mwangi and Jacquelyne Mumbua Wambua are accused of conspiring with intent to defraud CIC General Insurance ltd of Sh 9,192,027.
The court h are that they facilitated fraudulent processing of KPLC public liability claim in favour of Wambua purporting that she had made genuine and valid claims with the insurance company arising from fire damage to her property.
The two are alleged to have committed the offence jointly with others not before court on diverse dates between January 25, 2016 and September 9, 2021 at an unknown place in Kenya.
Wambua is also charged with stealing. It is alleged that the money after it was fraudulently paid into her account at Co-operative bank, Aga Khan walk branch upon processing of fictitious KPLC public liability claim in her favour.
Mwangi, a claim analyst, is charged with seven counts fraudulent false accounting of different amounts in the name of Wambua. He is also charged with 11 counts of of forgery of the General Adjusters Kenya Limited Final Quantum Report purporting them to be genuine and valid in respect to different claims of fire damage in her premises in Buruburu, Tassia, Thika, Parklands, Machakos among others.
Mwangi is charged with several counts of uttering false documents to wit CIC General Insurance Limited Discharge Voucher for the different settlement claims to Wambua.
The two denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and were freed upon depositing bond of Sh2 million each and one surety of a similar amount.
Alternatively, they were granted ordered to deposit cash bail of Sh 1.5 million each with one contact person.
