Trump Is Deporting 15 Kenyans Listed As the “Worst of the Worst “
A fresh storm is brewing between Nairobi and Washington after the Trump administration publicly profiled 15 Kenyans now marked for immediate deportation under a new US Department of Homeland Security initiative that names and shames immigrants labelled as the “worst of the worst”.
The fifteen, drawn from multiple states across America, appeared on a new DHS webpage unveiled on Monday.
Their photographs, full criminal histories and arrest details were placed on the platform as part of what the administration says is a public-safety push, making them among the first 10,000 people identified for removal under the expanded crackdown on undocumented and criminal non-citizens.
The list features 14 men and one woman whose cases range from petty offences to serious felonies.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement says each of them has already been arrested and processed, clearing the path for deportation as soon as immigration courts sign off on the removals.
Standing out on the list is Naserian Montet, the only woman among the Kenyan group.
Her bright, smiling photograph is placed beside a summary of her case, which DHS says involved assault and violation of a court order before her arrest in Spanish Fork, Utah.
She now sits in the same catalogue as others branded national security and public safety threats.
Another name drawing attention is Alfred Obiero, who DHS lists as having been convicted of assault, driving under the influence and domestic violence before being taken into custody in Colorado Springs.
His profile appears alongside detailed arrest notes that mirror the administration’s claim that the list is meant to reassure Americans that dangerous offenders are being removed.
In Texas, two Kenyans linked to driving under the influence were arrested separately.
Patrick Mwangi and Daniel Kathii were flagged by state authorities before being transferred to federal custody.
In Arizona, DHS records show that Isaac Githinji was arrested on a charge of flight to avoid prosecution.
Minnesota authorities handed over Collins Keanche after convictions for check forgery and money laundering, while in Massachusetts, Francis Mungai appeared on the list for receiving stolen property.
In California, Bethuel Gathu was profiled for a robbery conviction, with DHS stating that he was arrested after local law enforcement alerted ICE.
Tennessee authorities arrested Moses Okoth on an aggravated assault conviction, and Texas once again featured in the sweep with the arrest of Clement Mulovi, who DHS says was convicted of fraud.
In Seattle, Washington, federal agents detained Antony Karia, listed for fraud, making a false statement and involvement in a hit-and-run incident.
Georgia law enforcement flagged Boniface Mburu, whose convictions for aggravated assault and possession of stolen property placed him on the federal list, while in Pennsylvania, Kevin Gunyanyi was arrested following assault and what DHS describes as offences linked to terroristic threats.
Rounding out the list is Mohamed Chekchekani, who DHS says was convicted of kidnapping a minor and violating the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act.
He was arrested in San Pedro, California and is currently listed among those the administration considers top-priority deportation cases.
The Kenyan government has yet to issue a formal response, but officials familiar with ongoing diplomatic channels say Nairobi will seek clarity on the public labelling of its citizens.
Human rights groups in the US have also criticised the new DHS platform, arguing that it amounts to digital pillorying that could expose individuals and families to harassment long after their legal penalties have been served.
For now, the 15 Kenyans remain detained across various states as the Trump administration intensifies what it calls its most aggressive immigration enforcement strategy yet.
The names and faces on the list are expected to keep changing as DHS continues adding thousands more immigrants in the weeks ahead, but for the Kenyan community in America, the latest publication has sent shockwaves through families already anxious about the direction of US immigration policy.
