Official: Guinness World Records Certifies Truphena Muthoni’s 48-Hour Tree-Hugging Marathon
The recognition came a day after she broke her own record after hugging a tree for 72 hours.
Guinness World Records has officially verified environmental activist Truphena Muthoni’s 48-hour tree-hugging marathon, even as her newer 72-hour attempt awaits formal verification.
22-year-old Muthoni hugged a tree for 48 hours straight from January 31 to February 2, 2025.
This means the Guinness World Records checked all the evidence, videos, witnesses, measurements, and official documents, and confirmed that she truly accomplished it.
The recognition came a day after she broke her own record after hugging a tree for 72 hours.
The move aimed to raise awareness about deforestation, climate change, forest protection, and mental health, attracting widespread attention and support from Kenyans across the country.
The push for recognition of her 72-hour feat gained momentum as fans took to Guinness World Records’ Instagram page, urging the organisation to certify the achievement.
“We have a world record holder in Kenya. Truphena Muthoni sets a new world record for hugging a tree for 72 hours,” one fan, Fredrick Timotheo, wrote on December 11, 2025.
Guinness World Records responded promptly, stating that they are awaiting the necessary evidence to verify the attempt. “We look forward to receiving the evidence,” the organisation commented, signalling that official recognition is pending.
Muthoni’s earlier 48-hour tree-hugging record, achieved in February 2025 at Michuki Memorial Park in Nairobi, has already been formally recorded by Guinness World Records, marking her as the first Kenyan to set a world record for tree-hugging.
Her dedication to environmental activism and extreme endurance has captured national attention, with many applauding her commitment to promoting forest conservation and public awareness on climate issues.
The 72-hour attempt, widely celebrated by Kenyans, is now in the process of formal verification, which, once confirmed, would extend her record and highlight Kenya on the global stage.
