Allegations of Mismanagement and Nepotism Plague Kenya Roads Board

Nairobi – The Kenya Roads Board (KRB) is at the center of controversy, with allegations of mismanagement and nepotism surfacing against its chairman, Ahmed Kolosh. Sources close to the matter suggest that Kolosh’s leadership style has sparked internal conflict, leading to what some describe as a “witch hunt” within the agency.

Kolosh is accused of exerting undue influence over the Director General of Taxation, which some board members claim has been used to steer decisions in favor of personal gains rather than the interests of the organization or the public. The board, composed of members including Francis Theuri, John Nyanguti, Charles Tirok, Jackson Mwangi, Julius Mwabu, Philip Wachira, and Stephen Ikikii, is reportedly divided, with several members openly opposing Kolosh’s management tactics.

Insiders allege that Kolosh, along with Director General Rashid Mohammed, has transformed the KRB into a quasi-regional entity, predominantly serving Wajir county interests. This includes the strategic placement of relatives in key positions within the organization, fostering an environment where corruption and looting are rampant.

“Kolosh has been instrumental in the sacking of numerous staff members,” said a source who wished to remain anonymous due to fear of reprisal. “It’s not just about mismanagement; there’s a clear pattern of nepotism turning this into a family affair.”

Further allegations point to Kolosh’s role in lobbying for substantial budgetary allocations for KRB, with whispers of kickbacks being part of the deal. This has allegedly enabled top officials at KRB to acquire significant property in major cities like Nairobi and Mombasa, raising questions about the source of their wealth.
