Seattle, USA – Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua arrived in Seattle on Thursday to commence a two-month tour of the United States, marking his first international trip since his impeachment in October 2024.

The visit, aimed at engaging the Kenyan diaspora on the “state of the nation” and rallying support for political reform ahead of the 2027 General Election, comes against a backdrop of heightened political tension in Kenya.

Gachagua’s tour began with a breakfast meeting in Seattle, where he is expected to outline his vision for Kenya’s future.

The itinerary includes town halls and engagements in Dallas, with additional stops planned across the US to connect with Kenyan communities.

His mission is to galvanize support among the diaspora for reforms he believes are critical to addressing Kenya’s political and governance challenges.

The trip follows a dramatic departure from Nairobi, where Gachagua held a press conference just hours before his flight, alleging that individuals close to President William Ruto attempted to block his travel and threatened him with arrest at the airport.

These claims underscore the ongoing political friction in Kenya, particularly following Gachagua’s impeachment, which has fueled debates about the country’s leadership and direction.

Gachagua’s tour is seen as a strategic move to maintain political relevance and build momentum for his reform agenda.

By engaging with the Kenyan diaspora, he aims to amplify calls for transparency and accountability in governance, themes that are likely to resonate strongly as the 2027 election approaches.

As Gachagua embarks on this high-profile visit, all eyes will be on how his message is received both in the US and back home, where political divisions continue to simmer.
