Sportpesa Could Be Coming Back To Business
Movement inside the betting company Sportpesa may suggest that the bookmaker could be going back into business. A number of former employees have reportedly received emails to report to their offices.
The email is from the firm’s head of human resources, Terry Wanja Njagi, asking the employees to report to the company’s office at Chancery Building on Valley Road, Nairobi on Friday, November 1st.
The letter addressed to “all” had “Withdrawal of termination notices dated 2nd October, 2019.” and “Tomorrow at 11am [we will communicate the] next steps.” listed as agendas.
On October 2nd, the bookmaker announced that it was retrenching its 400-plus employees after it became “impossible” to continue paying salaries. This is after a long push and pull battle with the Kenya Revenue Authority over some Ksh14.9 billion the taxman claims the company has not paid in tax, a claim that SportPesa CEO, Captain Ronald Karauri, refuted.
